Criminal record certificate from Panama for a Spanish nationality file: who issues it and how long it stays valid
What the official pages of Panama and of Spain say about the criminal record certificate: who issues it, how to ask for it from Spain, cost and time where they are stated, and how long it counts for your file, with a source under every line. Reading this page is free.
Validity clock: your dates, worked out
Type a date you already have and read the date it leads to, with the official rule beside it. Nothing is stored or sent: the calculation runs in your browser. Add a date to your calendar with a reminder.
How we count
Months and years end on the same day number, or on the last day of the month if there is no such day; they start the day after the date you give. A deadline that ends on a weekend moves to the next working day. Document validity is not moved: the date shown is the last day it stays valid, even on a weekend. Days are working days unless a law says otherwise.

In short
- Criminal record: The Dirección de Investigación Judicial issues the Récord Policivo, which Panamanians can request online, though a 2019 press item says the online record is only for employment procedures; the Panamá Digital page states a validity of 30 days from the date it is generated, and the clock below uses it.
Each line sums up a section below. The sources are in that section.

1. Criminal record certificate
The Panamá Digital page for the Solicitud de Récord Policivo names the Dirección de Investigación Judicial (DIJ) as the institution and describes the record as the penal history of a person.[1]
The Foreign Ministry's page on consular services lists, under the heading for police records (criminal records), that Panamanians can request their Récord Policivo online.[2] The Panamá Conecta guide says the DIJ section is on the main page of the portal.[3] A Panamá Digital notice stamped 15/02/2021 says the online procedure for the Récord Policivo is for employment matters,[4] that only citizens with a Panamanian cédula and holders of the migration card that the Tribunal Electoral issues to those identified with the letter E can use it,[5] and that foreigners with a passport have to request it in person at the DIJ.[6] We found no official page saying whether a person who lives abroad can complete the online request: ask the DIJ.
The Panamá Digital page says that, if you do not go to the DIJ in person to collect your Historial Policivo, you must prepare a notarised power-of-attorney note.[7] For a person who requests the record in the name of another citizen, it lists a notarised authorisation note from the holder.[8] It also says that any request with sentences must be collected at the DIJ headquarters.[9] The page does not say whether a power of attorney signed in Spain is accepted, and it states no fee: ask the DIJ.
Validity. The Panamá Digital page says the validity period of the Récord Policivo is 30 days from the date the record is generated.[10] A 2019 press item of the Autoridad Nacional para la Innovación Gubernamental (AIG) says the record issued by the online platform lasts thirty days, with the same validity as one requested at the DIJ windows, and is only for employment procedures.[11] Spain's order says all documents must be in force when you apply,[12] that the term stated in the certificate itself is the one that applies,[13] and that a criminal record certificate with no stated validity counts as valid for six months from issue.[14] Panama's issuer states a validity on its pages; we could not see a printed certificate to check that it shows the same term, so the clock below uses the 30 days, which is our reading. The page does not say whether they are calendar or working days: the clock counts calendar days, which is our assumption.[15][16]
Employment record. The 2019 press item says the online record is only for employment procedures,[17] and the 2021 Panamá Digital notice presents the online procedure as being for employment matters.[18] We found no official text saying whether that record is accepted for a Spanish nationality file: ask the Spanish civil registry.
Spain asks for the criminal record certificate of the country of origin, legalised and translated, and says that as a rule it must be issued by the competent body of that country.[19][20]

- A document is refused and you do not know why.
- Your names are spelled differently in your documents.
- A required document cannot be obtained.
- You are near a deadline.
These are general triggers, not an assessment of your case. A lawyer should confirm what applies to you. CiviqPass does not name or recommend a lawyer.
