How we count

Months and years end on the same day number, or on the last day of the month if there is no such day; they start the day after the date you give. A deadline that ends on a weekend moves to the next working day. Document validity is not moved: the date shown is the last day it stays valid, even on a weekend. Days are working days unless a law says otherwise.

In short

  • Criminal record: The Judiciary's UNAP issues the criminal record certificate, which can be requested online (we found no page on what to enter in the address field when living abroad); its guide says six months of validity but not from which date they count.

Each line sums up a section below. The sources are in that section.

Last checked: 19 October 2026. Check the official page: sede.mjusticia.gob.es.

1. Criminal record certificate

The Judiciary's page on criminal records says the Unidad de Antecedentes Penales (UNAP), attached to the CEDIJ, is in charge of updating, operating and validating the data register of the Sistema Nacional de Antecedentes Penales.[1] It says the UNAP issues the "Constancia de Antecedentes Penales" exclusively, for internal and external use.[2]

The Judiciary's requirements leaflet says all the certificates can be requested online.[3] Its page says you log in again to PJ Digital to get the certificate in PDF format.[4]

The source for the consulate's pages is the consulate's own website, www.consuladohondurasmadrid.es; the Ministry of Labour's directory lists the consulate's email on that domain.[5][6] The page of the Honduran consulate in Madrid says Hondurans can get their criminal record certificate authenticated and apostilled from abroad.[7] It says the certificate with its authentication costs L. 400, paid on the Judiciary's page.[8] The Judiciary's online payment portal lists the certificate at L 200.00 and the authentication for use abroad at L 200.00.[9]

Address field. The Judiciary's online payment portal says the applicant enters, among other data, a residence address in Honduras.[10] We found no official page that says what a person living abroad enters there: ask the consulate or the Judiciary.

Under its support hours, the consulate's page lists Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:00 p. m., with no appointment.[11] It says the consulate helps free of charge with the same procedure during its opening hours[12], and that the support is in person and only the holder of the record is attended.[13]

For a request in another person's name, the Judiciary's page says the person must prove their power of attorney, duly authenticated, and that this includes lawyers.[14] The consulate's page says documents it issues, among them cartas poder, must be authenticated by the Foreign Ministry (SRECI) to be used in Honduras.[15] Its Carta Poder page lists a validity of 6 months from issue.[16] We found no official page that says whether a consular carta poder meets the Judiciary's requirement: ask the consulate.

For the in-person route in Honduras, the Judiciary's page lists three receipts bought at Banco Atlántida: "Antecedentes Penales Extranjero" L. 200.00, "Recibo de Autentica" L. 150.00 and a stamp of L. 2.00.[17] It says the certificates can only be authenticated at the Corte Suprema de Justicia, by its authentication section.[18] The two Judiciary pages give different amounts for the authentication, so check the amount on the page you use.

The Judiciary's guide "Instructivo para solicitar una constancia de antecedentes penales a nombre propio" says the service is provided in 1 working day, from the request until the certificate is delivered, where all the attached documents are correct.[19] The payment portal says the documents are available to download for 30 days from the date of payment.[20]

Validity. The same guide says the document has a validity of six months.[21] It does not say from which date the six months count. Spain's order says that, for certificates, the validity stated on the document itself is what counts, and that all documents must be in force when you apply.[22][23] For a criminal record with no stated validity, it says six months from issue.[24]

Spain's order says the criminal record certificate must be issued, as a general rule, by the competent body of the country of origin.[25] It asks for the certificate of the country of origin, legalised and translated.[26]

When to see a lawyer

  • A document is refused and you do not know why.
  • Your names are spelled differently in your documents.
  • A required document cannot be obtained.
  • You are near a deadline.

These are general triggers, not an assessment of your case. A lawyer should confirm what applies to you. CiviqPass does not name or recommend a lawyer.
