Sources: Spanish Constitution (BOE); Real Decreto 1004/2015, art. 6; Orden JUS/1625/2016, art. 10.4 (certificate validity); Instituto Cervantes, FAQ, exam page and preparation page (archived copies of 7 August 2026, because the Cervantes site was under maintenance from 17 to 20 October). BOE texts read on 20 October 2026.

What the CCSE is and what format it has

The CCSE (Conocimientos Constitucionales y Socioculturales de España, the test of Spanish constitutional and sociocultural knowledge) goes with the DELE A2 in an application for nationality by residence. The Instituto Cervantes designs and runs it. It has 25 questions in 5 tasks, each with three options or true/false, lasts 45 minutes and is passed with 15 correct answers. The certificate is valid for four years from its date.

Grid of 25 squares: 15 questions on the Constitution and the organisation of the State, 10 on culture, history and society
By law, 60% of the questions are about the Constitution and the administrative and territorial organisation, and 40% about culture, history and society (Real Decreto 1004/2015, art. 6.3).

With 45 minutes for 25 questions you get under two minutes each (1 min 48 s on average). That is why it pays to practise against a timer and not only with lists of loose questions.

The real questions are in Spanish. Each question below is therefore given in Spanish, with the English translation right under it to help you read it. They come from the Constitution block, which is the biggest. Think of the answer before you open it. Each one cites the article, so you learn the fact and not the letter.

A rule of thumb of ours: if you got 6 or more right, the Constitution block is going well. If you missed several, reread the cited articles before moving on to the mock. These 8 do not measure your score: the real exam has 25 questions and also covers culture, history and society.

What the mock looks like, with marking and explanations

Loose questions do not train your timing. The CiviqPass mock reproduces the exam: 25 questions, a 45-minute timer, then your score and the block to review. Every answer shows its explanation and its source.

A look inside the mock (real screenshot, English version): 1) right answer marked, 2) explanation, 3) link to the source.

The mock's questions and explanations are in English, with the Spanish term in brackets where it matters. That helps if Spanish is your weak spot: you learn the topic in your language, then the word you will read on exam day.

How to study to reach 15 correct answers

  1. Take one full mock first. Your starting score tells you whether you are 3 correct answers short or 10.
  2. Study block by block. The Constitution and the organisation of the State are 15 of the 25 questions, so start there.
  3. Read every explanation, including those of questions you got right. A lucky guess does not count in the exam.
  4. Use the free official material. The Instituto Cervantes publishes a preparation manual with 300 questions and an official app.
  5. Repeat the mock against the clock until you finish with time to spare.

A mock shows where you lose points. None of the questions in our mock is from the real exam.

Before you prepare the CCSE, check whether you may be exempt: who is exempt from the DELE A2 and the CCSE (page in Spanish). The full conditions are in the years and exams checker, and the format in CCSE exam: how many questions.
